Silverthorne - hike begins, follows along 40, lots of little hikes

Aspen - Independence Pass only open in summer between 24 and Aspen, nice drive, Maroon Bells Hike is a good one

Glenwood Springs, along I70, fun hot spring pools, crowded but huge

Steamboat Springs - pretty

Gunnison - Black Canyon of Gunnison Nat'l Park, Crested Butte

Mesa Verde, Durango - South West corner

550/145 favorite drive, north/south, prettiest drive everywhere. San Juan Mtns, go down one, up other, cute towns (silverton, telluride), music festivals every weekend

Cool parks by Grand Junction, Dinosaur Nat'l Park (west: central and north)

Mount of the holy cross, mt vail, mt princeton - lots of 14'ers, along 24

Chaco Canyon Nat'l Park, easy drive from Durango or Santa Fe, in New Mexico, cool but hot
